Conflicting Witnesses
Eye-witnesses who were there on Houston Street at the Dealey Plaza on 22 November 1962 all give different accounts on what they witnessed:
Most stories varied, and some witness statements were altered or not considered in the Warren Commission.
- Oswald carried a long paper bag to work that day
- A man with a rifle was in the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository building.
- Lee Harvey Oswald was clearly in the window.
- Oswald was not at the window nor was anyone else
- Oswald was eating his lunch just before the motorcade came along, shortly he was seen outside the building watching
- A man was behind the picket fence at the Grassy Knoll
- No-one was behind the fence at the Grassy Knoll
- Gunfire and smoke was at the sixth floor window when the bullets were shot
- Gunfire and smoke was at the picket fence when the bullets were fired
- The driver of the presidential car turned and shot Kennedy
- Men fled the fence at the Grassy Knoll in a van
- Oswald was in the Depository building on the second floor just after the shooting
- Oswald walked away from the chaos shortly afterwards
- Any number between 1 and 8 shots were heard
- The first shot sounded like backfire from a tire
- Second shot caused Kennedy to raise his arms to his neck
- There was a pause between Kennedy being shot and Connally being shot
- The presidential car slowed to 10 miles per hour, and suddenly sped off after Kennedy was shot in the head
- Kennedy fell back and to the left after his head shot
- Jackie Kennedy climbed onto the boot then rejoined her husband
- A Secret Service man jumped onto the back of the racing presidential car
